U0025 indicates a fault on the low-speed Controller Area Network (CAN) communication bus. This code is set when the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or other gateway module detects that messages are not being properly transmitted or received on the low-speed CAN bus, which typically handles body control functions such as climate control, door locks, and instrument cluster.

1. Damaged or shorted CAN bus wiring

2. Failed CAN bus termination resistor(s)

3. Faulty control module on the low-speed bus

4. CAN transceiver failure within a module

The CAN transceiver chip inside a control module can fail, causing that module to no longer properly transmit or receive CAN messages.

5. Power or ground supply issue to bus modules

Insufficient voltage or poor ground connections to modules on the CAN bus can cause intermittent or complete communication loss.

6. PCM/ECM failure (rare)

The PCM itself can rarely fail and cause low-speed bus communication issues, but this should be diagnosed only after all other more common causes are ruled out.

  3. Measure CAN high (~2.5-3.5V) and CAN low (~1.5-2.5V) voltages at the DLC with key on, engine off; compare to specifications
  4. Check the CAN bus termination resistance by measuring across CAN high and CAN low at the DLC; should read approximately 60 ohms (two 120-ohm resistors in parallel)
  5. Systematically disconnect modules on the low-speed bus one at a time while monitoring for code resolution or bus voltage stabilization
  6. Verify proper power and ground to all modules on the affected CAN bus using a multimeter
