P0719 — Brake Switch B Circuit Low

P0719 indicates the powertrain control module has detected a low voltage condition on the brake switch B input circuit when it expects a high signal. Brake switch B is typically the normally-closed side of the brake pedal switch, used by the PCM for torque converter clutch and cruise control decisions rather than for the brake lamps themselves.

What causes it — most likely first

1. Brake pedal position switch failure

The internal contacts of the brake switch can wear, stick, or corrode, causing the B circuit to report low voltage continuously. This is the most common cause of P0719.

2. Wiring or connector fault between switch and PCM

Chafed, shorted, or corroded wiring, or a damaged connector at the brake switch, can pull the B circuit low or interrupt the expected signal.

3. Brake switch misadjustment

If the switch is mounted out of position or the pedal stop is worn, the switch may not open and close at the correct pedal travel, causing an incorrect state at the PCM.

4. Blown fuse supplying the brake switch B circuit

A fuse feeding the reference or signal side of the brake switch B circuit can be open, resulting in a permanent low voltage reading at the PCM.

5. PCM internal input fault

Rarely, the PCM input circuitry for the brake switch B signal may fail. This should only be considered after the switch, wiring, and power supply are fully verified.

How it's diagnosed

  1. Verify brake lamp operation with the pedal pressed and released to confirm the primary brake switch function.
  2. Visually inspect the brake pedal switch, connector, and nearby harness for damage, corrosion, or moisture intrusion.
  3. Check the fuse that supplies the brake switch B circuit and replace if open, then recheck for the code.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the brake switch B PID while pressing and releasing the pedal; confirm the state changes correctly.
  5. Back-probe the brake switch B output and measure voltage with pedal released and pressed; compare to specification.
  6. Perform continuity and short-to-ground tests on the wiring between the switch and PCM before considering control module replacement.
