Code P0566 indicates that the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected a malfunction in the cruise control off signal circuit. The code sets when the PCM sees an unexpected voltage or signal state from this circuit.

3. Damaged or shorted wiring in the cruise control off circuit

Wiring between the brake/clutch switch, cruise control switches, and the PCM can chafe, short to ground, or open, causing an incorrect signal. Common near the pedal area or in the steering column.

4. Faulty cruise control switch (steering wheel or stalk)

The cancel/off switch contacts may wear or become contaminated, sending an intermittent or constant off signal even when not pressed.

  4. Test the brake switch and clutch switch according to manufacturer specifications using a multimeter. Check for correct voltage and continuity in both the rest and pressed positions.
  5. Inspect the cruise control switch (on steering wheel or stalk) for proper resistance values when pressed. Check for short to ground or open circuits in the switch wiring.
  6. If all switches, wiring, and connectors test good, check for a short to voltage or ground in the signal circuit between the switch and the PCM. Only after exhausting all other possibilities, consider a PCM fault.
