Body PASSENGER CARTransmission Automatic (variable gear ratios)

The 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid is a passenger car that combines a hybrid powertrain with an automatic transmission using variable gear ratios, and it delivers an EPA-estimated 49 mpg city, 45 highway, and 47 combined. This model year, however, marks the highest complaint volume in the Accord Hybrid’s history from 2005 to 2026, with 954 owner reports overwhelmingly centered on the electrical system and accompanied by four recalls, making it a notably troublesome entry that demands extra scrutiny from researchers.

Prep Measure the diameter of each cylinder head bolt at point A and point B. Point A = 45.00 mm from thread end and point B = 50.00 mm from thread end. If either diameter is less than 11.3 mm (0.445 in), Do not reuse old bolts. Use new bolts coated with clean engine oil. Reliability & federal safety record

Owner-reported issues, recalls, investigations and service bulletins on record with NHTSA — an unfiltered look at what owners actually experience.

The 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid presents a distinctive profile within this generation: it recorded 954 consumer complaints, the highest single-year figure in the entire dataset, surpassing even the pre-hybrid era years (20052007, which maxed at 686). By comparison, the immediately subsequent model years saw a sharp decline—2015 dropped to 609 complaints and 2016 collapsed to just 1 complaint with zero recalls. This suggests 2014 was a problematic launch year for the hybrid powertrain, with complaints settling substantially once the platform matured. Within 2014 specifically, the Electrical System dominated at 198 complaints, trailed by Steering (81) and Engine (80), and notably, there were 53 crash-related complaints and 10 fire-related complaints—figures that warrant scrutiny. The trend arc indicates 2014 sits at a sharp peak that resolves by the next model year and normalizes by 2016. **Concrete takeaway:** The 2014 model year carries the highest complaint volume in this generation, with electrical issues and an elevated crash/fire complaint count compared to neighboring years, making it the highest-risk purchase within this generation; a 2015 or 2016 model would offer the same platform with significantly fewer documented problems.
