U3506 means a control module has detected an abnormally high voltage on its dedicated 'Input Power B' supply circuit—often a battery or ignition feed. The module compares the circuit voltage to an internal reference, and when the reading stays above the calibrated threshold, it stores this code. It does not necessarily mean the module itself has failed; the high reading usually originates in the vehicle’s charging system, wiring, or grounds.

What causes it — most likely first

1. Charging system overvoltage

A faulty voltage regulator or alternator can push system voltage above normal, raising all module supply circuits and causing a high-voltage reading.

2. Short to voltage in power B circuit wiring

The feed wire may be pinched, chafed, or melted and touching a higher-voltage source, pulling the module’s input above its expected range.

3. High-resistance or poor module ground

A corroded, loose, or overloaded ground can raise the module’s local reference voltage, making a normal supply appear high relative to module ground.

4. Faulty power distribution connection

Corroded terminals, damaged splices, or a failing relay or fuse panel can create voltage anomalies on the circuit feeding the module.

5. Control module internal fault

If charging voltage and all wiring/grounds are verified normal, the module’s internal voltage-sensing circuitry may be faulty and misreporting the circuit as high.

How it's diagnosed

  1. Check battery and charging system voltage with the engine running; verify it stays within the vehicle’s specified range.
  2. Inspect the power B feed harness for chafing, pinching, or contact with higher-voltage circuits; repair any short-to-voltage damage.
  3. Measure voltage at the module’s power B pin and compare it to battery voltage; also load-test module ground circuits for voltage drop.
  4. Review related DTCs and freeze-frame data; network or communication codes may point to shared supply issues.
  5. If all supply, ground, and charging tests are normal, consider module replacement only after confirming the internal sensing circuit is defective.
