U0509 means another control module on the vehicle network has received corrupted, missing, or out-of-range data from the Seat Control Module (SCM). The seat module is communicating, but its message content does not match what the receiving module expects, so the code is set.

1. Faulty seat control module

The module itself may have an internal fault causing it to broadcast invalid data frames. This is the most common root cause when wiring and voltage are verified good.

2. Wiring or connector fault to the seat module

  2. Check battery state of charge, alternator output, and ground integrity; low voltage is a common cause of false U-codes.
  3. Inspect the seat control module connectors and harness for corrosion, pushed-out pins, chafing, or water intrusion; repair any wiring defects.
  4. Perform a network communication test and check for related U-codes in other modules to determine if the problem is isolated to the seat module or bus-wide.
