This sensor monitors EGR valve position, temperature, or flow depending on vehicle design. How it's diagnosed

  2. Visually inspect the EGR sensor E wiring harness and connectors for damage, corrosion, or loose terminals.
  3. Check sensor supply voltage and ground at the connector with a multimeter while wiggling the harness to reveal intermittents.
  4. Measure sensor resistance or output signal (per service data) while actuating the EGR valve with a scan tool or by applying vacuum.
  5. Remove and inspect the EGR valve and passages for carbon restriction; clean or replace as needed.
