P2226 indicates a problem in the barometric pressure (BARO) sensor circuit. The sensor measures atmospheric pressure to help the engine control module (PCM) adjust fuel and timing; when the signal is missing or out of range, the PCM sets this code.

  2. Visually inspect the barometric sensor, its connector, and wiring for damage, corrosion, or loose connections.
  3. Check for a 5-volt reference and good ground at the sensor connector with the ignition on.
  4. Test the sensor output voltage with a multimeter (typically 4.5–5.0 V at sea level, decreasing with altitude) and compare to a known-good sensor or scan tool reading.
  5. If the sensor and wiring check out, perform a wiggle test while monitoring the signal to find intermittent faults.
  6. As a last resort, verify PCM integrity by checking for proper input voltage and signal processing; replace only if all other components are confirmed good.
