A poor, loose, or open ground for the NOx sensor heater can raise the apparent circuit voltage and trigger this code even though the power side is normal.

5. Previous repair or aftermarket wiring damage

Incorrect routing, splicing, or shielding during prior service can create intermittent or permanent high-voltage conditions in the NOx heater circuit.

6. PCM heater driver failure

Although often suggested, an actual PCM/ECM driver failure causing P2207 is uncommon and should only be considered after the sensor, wiring, connectors, and grounds have been ruled out.

How it's diagnosed

  1. Inspect the NOx sensor connector and harness for corrosion, bent pins, chafing, or heat damage near the exhaust.
  2. Retrieve freeze-frame data and any related NOx sensor or reductant-system codes to identify whether the fault occurs cold or hot.
  3. Measure heater circuit resistance and compare it to manufacturer specifications; an out-of-spec heater element indicates a failed sensor.
  4. With the key on, check for unwanted voltage on the heater control wire and verify the sensor ground is clean and within 0.1 V of battery ground.
  5. Perform a continuity and insulation test on the harness between the sensor and PCM to locate shorts to voltage or open circuits.
  6. If the sensor, wiring, grounds, and connectors are all verified good, evaluate PCM/ECM operation before condemning the module.
