Code P0528 indicates the engine computer is not receiving any signal from the cooling fan speed sensor. This sensor reports the rotational speed of the electric engine cooling fan back to the PCM so it can verify proper fan operation. A complete loss of signal suggests an open circuit, a failed sensor, or a fan that is not running at all.
The hall-effect or magnetic speed sensor built into the fan assembly can fail internally, producing no output signal. This is the most common single cause for a no-signal code.
A broken wire, corroded pin, or disconnected connector between the fan speed sensor and the PCM will result in no signal reaching the computer. Heat and vibration near the radiator make this a frequent failure point.
