This code typically applies to diesel common-rail or direct-injection gasoline systems where a solenoid or actuator adjusts when fuel enters the cylinders. When the circuit fails, the PCM cannot properly regulate injection timing, leading to performance and emissions issues.

3. Corroded or loose electrical connectors

Poor pin connections at the timing control valve or PCM create excessive resistance or intermittent continuity, causing circuit voltage to fall outside specified ranges. Corrosion is common in engine-bay connectors exposed to moisture and salt.

4. Mechanical binding in timing actuator

The control valve may be physically stuck due to fuel varnish, sludge buildup, or contamination, preventing the solenoid from reaching its commanded position even when electrical signals are correct.

5. Powertrain control module failure
