  3. Check the O2 sensor heater fuse and related relay; replace if blown and investigate the cause of the overload.
  4. Unplug the sensor and measure heater element resistance with a multimeter, comparing the reading to the manufacturer's specification (typically a few ohms); an open circuit confirms a failed internal heater.
  5. With the sensor disconnected, check for battery voltage and a good ground at the heater circuit to confirm the PCM is supplying power and the ground path is intact.
  6. If wiring, fuse, and sensor test good, inspect the PCM connector and, only as a last resort, evaluate the PCM's heater driver.
