P0060 indicates that the powertrain control module has detected an abnormal resistance in the heater circuit of the downstream heated oxygen sensor (Bank 2, Sensor 2). The heater brings the sensor to operating temperature quickly; if its resistance is out of range, the sensor cannot provide accurate exhaust data for catalyst monitoring.

1. Failed heater element in the Bank 2 Sensor 2 oxygen sensor

The internal heater coil opens or shorts, causing resistance to fall outside the calibrated range.

2. Open or high-resistance wiring in the heater power or ground circuit

Damaged, corroded, or loose connectors and harnesses increase circuit resistance.

3. Blown heater circuit fuse or faulty heater relay

Loss of voltage to the heater prevents it from reaching the expected resistance.

4. Exhaust leaks near the sensor

Outside air entering the exhaust stream can affect sensor temperature and heater control logic.

5. PCM heater driver circuit failure

Internal driver damage is rare but possible; it would be considered only after all wiring and sensor tests pass.

How it's diagnosed

  1. Retrieve freeze-frame data and confirm the code is current.
  2. Inspect the Bank 2 Sensor 2 heater circuit fuse and relay; replace if blown or faulty.
  3. Visually examine the sensor connector and wiring for damage, corrosion, or disconnection.
  4. Measure heater resistance at the sensor connector with the engine off; compare to manufacturer specification.
  5. If resistance is out of range, replace the oxygen sensor; if wiring tests good and sensor is within spec, evaluate PCM heater driver as a last step.
