Factory specifications, fluid capacities, torque values, EPA fuel economy and the federal safety record for the 1992 Acclaim 3.3L.

Body PASSENGER CAREngine 3.3L

The 1992 Plymouth Acclaim is a passenger car built on the AA platform, powered by a 3.3-liter engine that anchored the model's mid-decade lineup. Within the broader complaint record covering 1990 through 1996—where the peak year tallied 110 complaints and the low dropped to a single filing—1992 sits as a middle volume with 73 owner reports, the bulk of them concentrated in the power train. A single recall issued against this model year further narrows the scope of factory-acknowledged issues. Plotted against the 1991 high and the 1996 low, the 1992 figures mark it as a relatively stable point in the Acclaim's reliability arc.

Note the factory engine air filter, spark plug and thermostat are now discontinued — plan on a superseded or quality aftermarket equivalent, which the part pages below list where known. Each part links to every other vehicle that shares it, so a part you already stock may fit more of your fleet than you'd expect.

Factory maintenance schedule OEM · verified

Normal service, condensed from the factory interval matrix.

Under the factory schedule, replace the engine oil and filter every 7,500 mi; spark plugs every 30,000 mi; coolant every 30,000 mi. The big-interval services (every 30,000 mi for coolant, and the transmission fluid) are the ones owners most often skip — on a lower-mileage example, assume the original fluids are still in it and check them first.

Reliability & federal safety record

Owner-reported issues, recalls, investigations and service bulletins on record with NHTSA — an unfiltered look at what owners actually experience.

The 1992 Plymouth Acclaim registered 73 federal complaints, a sharp drop from the 110 complaints seen in 1991 and only slightly above the 71 complaints recorded in 1990, indicating a modest improvement after the 1991 peak. Recall activity also fell to a single recall in 1992, the lowest in the six‑year span, while investigations remained steady at two, mirroring the 1991 level and suggesting no new systemic issues emerged that year. Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) rose to 38 in 1992, continuing the upward trend that peaked at 52 by 1995, which points to increasing manufacturer‑issued guidance rather than major safety failures. The most frequent complaint areas in 1992 were Power Train (11), Air Bags (9), and Suspension (8), with 12 crash‑related and 4 fire‑related complaints, numbers that are modest relative to the surrounding years. Overall, 1992 sits at a low point for complaints and recalls within the generation, making it a comparatively safer year to consider for a used purchase.
