1976 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

Factory specifications, fluid capacities, torque values, EPA fuel economy and the federal safety record for the 1976 Cutlass Supreme.

The 1976 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme appears in the model overview with only three recorded owner complaints and two recalls, a notably low figure for its era. Its complaint trajectory is contextualized by later data from 19901996, where complaint counts fluctuated between 90 and 252, peaking in 1994 and reaching a low of 90 in 1995. This early minimal volume suggests a comparatively stable introduction, while the subsequent variability highlights shifting reliability patterns in later Cutlass generations. The concentration of complaints in the “Unknown or Other” category further underscores the limited documented issues for the 1976 model.

Reliability & federal safety record

Owner-reported issues, recalls, investigations and service bulletins on record with NHTSA — an unfiltered look at what owners actually experience.

The 1976 model year registers minimal federal activity with only three total complaints distributed across Unknown/Other, Visibility, and Fuel System categories, alongside zero crash and fire incidents. This stands in stark contrast to the vehicle’s aging record from 19901996, which documents a volatile arc of 90 to 252 annual complaints, peaking in 1994, with recalls fluctuating between one and eight per year. The data positions 1976 at the origin of this lifecycle, preceding the high-volume complaint era by fourteen years and showing none of the safety investigations or service bulletins that characterized its later years. While the specific root causes driving the 1990s spike remain unspecified in the federal record, the manufacturing year itself demonstrates a clean statistical profile. Consequently, 1976 represents a favorable acquisition year from a factory-defect standpoint, provided the buyer accounts for age-related deterioration that generated the elevated complaint patterns documented during the 1990s period.
