2017 Nissan Rogue HEV

Factory specifications, fluid capacities, torque values, EPA fuel economy and the federal safety record for the 2017 Rogue HEV.

Body SUVTransmission Automatic (variable gear ratios)

The 2017 Nissan Rogue HEV is an SUV built around an automatic transmission with variable gear ratios and an engine serviced with 4.9 quarts of 5W-30 API oil, and it carries EPA ratings of 25 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 27 mpg combined. Those figures position it as a compact crossover whose maintenance and efficiency credentials are defined by a modest oil capacity and a 27 mpg combined rating. In the reliability record, the 2017 model stands out with 591 owner complaints, the largest share categorized as "Unknown Or Other," and five recalls, a pattern that shows documented field issues without pointing to a single dominant failure area. That profile makes the 2017 Rogue HEV a useful reference point for researchers tracking how this model year combines its mechanical specification with real-world service and recall exposure.

Service quick specs OEM factory data

Capacities, torques and tune-up values from the factory service manual.

This engine holds 4.9 qt of 5W-30 API engine oil, 80W-90 · GL-5 in the differential, DOT 3 brake fluid. Torque lug nuts to 83 ft-lbs. The firing order is 1-3-4-2. Note the cylinder-head bolts finish on a torque angle (torque-to-yield) — they stretch permanently and should be replaced, not reused, during any head service.

Factory maintenance schedule OEM · verified

Normal service, condensed from the factory interval matrix.

Under the factory schedule, replace the engine oil and filter every 5,000 mi; spark plugs at 105,000 mi; coolant at 105,000 mi. The big-interval services (at 105,000 mi for coolant, and the transmission fluid) are the ones owners most often skip — on a lower-mileage example, assume the original fluids are still in it and check them first.

Reliability & federal safety record

Owner-reported issues, recalls, investigations and service bulletins on record with NHTSA — an unfiltered look at what owners actually experience.

Owner complaints about the 2017 Nissan Rogue HEV top in one area — the unknown or other, 80 of 591 reports (14%), well ahead of the next concern. None of this vehicle's 5 recall campaigns target the unknown or other, so those reports read as owner-reported wear-and-tear rather than an acknowledged defect. 57 of the reports describe a crash and 8 a fire — a small share of the total, but worth weighing against the unknown or other pattern above. These are tallies of what owners actually reported to the federal government, not an editorial score — and higher-selling models naturally rack up more reports.
