Factory maintenance schedule OEM · verified

Normal service, condensed from the factory interval matrix.

Under the factory schedule, replace the engine oil and filter every 5,000 mi; spark plugs at 105,000 mi; coolant at 105,000 mi. The big-interval services (at 105,000 mi for coolant, and the transmission fluid) are the ones owners most often skip — on a lower-mileage example, assume the original fluids are still in it and check them first.

Reliability & federal safety record

Owner-reported issues, recalls, investigations and service bulletins on record with NHTSA — an unfiltered look at what owners actually experience.

The 2017 Pathfinder recorded 183 federal complaints, 2 recalls and 225 TSBs, placing it above the 2016 and 2018 volumes but below the early‑2000s peaks. Compared with the surrounding years, its complaint count is roughly double that of 2016 and 2018, while its recall count is comparable to those years. The 2017 figure falls in the mid‑range of the post‑2010 downward trend, where complaints have generally receded from the 2013 high of 890. Engine‑related issues accounted for the largest share of complaints, followed by “Unknown Or Other,” Power Train, and Electrical System. Therefore, the 2017 model year is an acceptable buy, though you should verify service records.
