Factory maintenance schedule OEM · verified

Normal service, condensed from the factory interval matrix.

Under the factory schedule, replace the engine oil and filter every 5,000 mi; spark plugs at 105,000 mi; coolant at 105,000 mi. The big-interval services (at 105,000 mi for coolant, and the transmission fluid) are the ones owners most often skip — on a lower-mileage example, assume the original fluids are still in it and check them first.

Reliability & federal safety record

Owner-reported issues, recalls, investigations and service bulletins on record with NHTSA — an unfiltered look at what owners actually experience.

The federal record shows a steep decline in complaints from 169 in 2014 to 38 in 2016, followed by a modest rise to 61 complaints in 2017 before continuing downward to single‑digit levels by 20202022. Recall activity follows a similar pattern, peaking at five in 2014, settling around three to four per year from 2015‑2018, dropping to one in 2019, and returning to three in 2021 while remaining absent in 2020 and after 2022. Investigations were recorded only for 2014 (two) and none thereafter, indicating that the 2017 model year had no open safety investigations. Compared with its immediate predecessor, 2017 experienced more complaints (61 vs. 38) but the same number of recalls (four) and zero investigations, placing it in a transitional phase of improving reliability. Overall, the 2017 Infiniti Q50 presents a better complaint and recall profile than the earliest years of the generation, though it is slightly less favorable than the 2016 model; it remains a reasonable used‑car choice given the declining trend in reported issues.
