Factory maintenance schedule OEM · verified

Normal service, condensed from the factory interval matrix.

Under the factory schedule, replace the engine oil and filter at 7,500 mi; spark plugs every 60,000 mi; coolant every 30,000 mi. The big-interval services (every 30,000 mi for coolant, and the transmission fluid) are the ones owners most often skip — on a lower-mileage example, assume the original fluids are still in it and check them first.

Reliability & federal safety record

Owner-reported issues, recalls, investigations and service bulletins on record with NHTSA — an unfiltered look at what owners actually experience.

The 1997 Infiniti I30 represents a mid-generation low point in federal complaint volume, with 21 complaints—down from 31 in 1996 and well below the 54 reported in 1998. While the single recall in 1997 (unspecified in the data) is notable, it doesn’t align with a broader trend, as recalls spike later in the generation (2001–2003). The top complaint areas—electrical system and hydraulic brakes—mirror concerns seen in adjacent years, though the 1997 model’s figures are modest compared to the surge in 1998 and 2000. Crash-related complaints (4) and a single fire report are consistent with the generation’s baseline but don’t indicate a systemic flaw. The 1997’s relatively stable complaint and recall profile, combined with its position outside the generation’s peak issue years, suggests it may be one of the more reliable choices. **Takeaway: The 1997 I30 appears to be a comparatively sound used purchase, provided service records address electrical and brake maintenance.**
