Step 3: Measure the ball joint deflection with a dial indicator that has a flexible arm by attaching between the upper control arm and wheel knuckle or ball joint stud. Dial indicator should be aligned as close as possible to the center line of the ball joint. Step 4: Push up and pull down on the upper control arm by hand until reading is on indicator. Step 5: Replace the ball joint if dial indicator readings exceed specifications.
