Factory specifications, fluid capacities, torque values, EPA fuel economy and the federal safety record for the 1987 Omni.

Transmission Automatic 3-spd

The 1987 Dodge Omni, Chrysler's rebadged iteration of the hatchback platform it had developed through collaboration with Simca and Talbot, achieves EPA fuel economy ratings of 21 mpg city, 24 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined with its automatic three-speed transmission, while maintenance requires 4 quarts of oil with filter at viscosities ranging from 20W-20 to 5W-30 depending on climate; reliability data from this model year shows 11 owner complaints filed with the primary issue centered on the fuel system gasoline components across three total recall campaigns, suggesting this particular model year experienced modest but notable quality concerns relative to the nameplate's earlier performance.

Reliability & federal safety record

Owner-reported issues, recalls, investigations and service bulletins on record with NHTSA — an unfiltered look at what owners actually experience.

Owner complaints about the 1987 Dodge Omni dominate in one area — the fuel system, gasoline, 4 of 11 reports (36%), well ahead of the next concern. That matters, because the fuel system, gasoline are also the target of recall 91V-132 on this vehicle — so the single most useful check before buying or servicing one is confirming it was actually performed. 0 of the reports describe a crash and 1 a fire — a small share of the total, but worth weighing against the fuel system, gasoline pattern above. These are tallies of what owners actually reported to the federal government, not an editorial score — and higher-selling models naturally rack up more reports.
