Factory specifications, fluid capacities, torque values, EPA fuel economy and the federal safety record for the 1978 530i.
The 1978 BMW 530i appears in the reference overview as a distinct model year of the BMW 5 Series. Complaint records for the model line, which span from 1990 through 2024, show a peak of 25 reported issues in 2001 and a low of just 5 issues in 1995. Because the 1978 model year predates the period covered by those statistics, the available complaint data do not directly reflect its reliability. Consequently, any assessment of the 1978 530i’s dependability must rely on sources outside this complaint history.
