1980 American Motors Eagle

Factory specifications, fluid capacities, torque values, EPA fuel economy and the federal safety record for the 1980 Eagle.

The 1980 American Motors Eagle marks the inaugural model year of AMC's car-based four-wheel-drive line, a vehicle that blended sedan and wagon body styles with a rugged drivetrain to carve out a niche between traditional passenger cars and utility vehicles. As the first year of a model that would run through the late 1980s, the 1980 Eagle carries the typical caveats of a launch-year vehicle, where early production quirks and unrefined systems tend to surface before subsequent model years bring incremental improvements. For researchers, this places the 1980 Eagle at the less reliable end of the model's history, meaning any evaluation of the platform's long-term durability should account for the teething issues common to first-year AMC products.
